2006 Canadian National IPSC Championship

My second trip to Canada and the opportunity to meet everyone again.. One thing can be said about the stages; they were not boring as in blasting targets at 5 yards away, something that seems to be more the trend - which I truly hate.

Wolf Hoffman did a great job designing the stages and setting up this match. Add 10 round magazines to the deal and it changes the game completely. Suddenly you care a little more where those shots go... I enjoyed my time tremendously and of course taking home the win for the second time.

Congratulations to my buds Don Chang for becoming the Open National Champion, Mike Burrell as the Standard Nationals Champion and Clint Milburn (his real name is Henning..) as the Production National Champion.

I showed up to the match trying to register, but..
found out I already had...

Turned out four other Henning's had beat me to it.
For five days... "I'm Henning. No... I'm Henning..."

Henning (Kelly Abram), Henning (me, Henning)
and Henning (Clint Milburn).

From front left:
Henning (Dan Parent) and Henning (Carl Lund).

Confusion and memory was tested this year.
Wolf had created 17 technical and challenging
stages. Everybody scratched their heads before
shooting this stage.

The final answer was 8-7-4-9
(alas the number of targets from each position.)

Lots of targets were exposed multiple times..

Fabian and Mats checking the scores
at the end of the day.

Speed shoot, Wolf style. Five steel through
a 4" tall (read: low) window..
Tilt the gun (scope)..

Mike Burrell won Standard division
with a whopping 15%.

We are now referring to him
as Canada's Robbie Leatham.

First pneumatic stage I've shot in a while.
Four banks of targets and plenty of time to shoot,
but get your points... You could squeeze half a
second on the last bank, but it wasn't worthdropping points for. Clever and fun stage.

Good times in Kingston, Ontario.

Mats on one of the stages we are more used to
in USPSA. Well, except for all the reloads
of course...

Stage videos:
Stage 1 - "Up Against the Wall"
Stage 2 - "Y Me"
Stage 4 - "Gone in 26 Seconds"
Stage 6 - "Around the Outside"
Stage 8 - "Dave's fault"
Stage 9 - "Mirror Image"
Stage 11 - "Doug's Place"
Stage 15 - "Walk in the Park"
Stage 17 - "Now I See"

Mike Burrell on Stage 17

I did a point count and I dropped 60 points
on the 17 stages (including 4 D's & 1 NPM).
The course design sucked you into the
shooting positions so when there..
why not get the points?

Hmm.. reminds me I need to go to the dentist soon.

Open Shoot Off ladder.

I did battle against Wolf Hoffman,
Chris Yang,
Jerome Morales
and Don Chang.

For fun we also had a all division shoot-off
where I faced Mike Dame (Standard).

Jerome Morales from Philippines in the semi-finals.

We trained at the Armscor range in Manila in '99.
He called his mom telling her I was here,
..upon she replied..
"The guy who shot himself in the foot?"

So, my trip to Manila in is forever sealed
in Mom's memory...

Here's a video from the shoot-offs

Mike posing with his trophies...

Standing ovation for Mike.

Diann posing with her trophies... the 5 Hennings.

Watch the madness in Kingston...
The Hennings running up to get the match trophy.

Henning(s) getting the trophy for the Shoot Off's.

And of course, afterwards we all went out drinking beer until 3am..
