2006 Winchester Challenge

As part of the warm-up for the annual American Handgunner Shoot Off in Montrose, Colorado, many of the competitors arrive a few days early to shoot the 15 course of fire for time. I think most of us fired 600+ rounds down range on everything from plate racks to poppers laid out on a field.

Ivan Walcott and Glenn Higdon from Armscor Precision, sponsors of the match, shooting "Mixed Bag".
Note the pesky popper on the left. Not an easy target.

Jaime Craig drove to Colorado with his family for
the Wyoming State USPSA Championship and
the American Handgunner.

We caught Jaime on tape.
Watch his insane trigger finger in action.

Being tall is not always good, sometimes you
have to adapt.
Here's my solution to a tall problem.

In case you're wondering what the targets
looked like,
here's a close up of the plates falling.

Glenn going for his second run on Mixed Bag.
You shoot every stage 4 times and thankfully
throw your worst run...

Here's Ray with his limited gun on Mixed Bag.

Picture on the right shows Ray on a field of poppers.

Jaime takes them down.

The platerack spells YR2006.
Glenn on YR2006.
Henning on YR2006,
(
cursing myself for shooting two at the stop plate..)

But if you think it's easy hitting a circle looking target,
a Y looking target etc.,
watch shots go through the letters..

Ivan shooting, while Glenn RO's.
Jaime, Colby and Andrew watching.

Today, Wednesday, is the day for the side matches..
shotgun, AR-15, .22LR pistol and rifle.

On Thursday, the match breaks loose.
